Explanation

The basis for bankruptcy statistics is details of bankruptcies and public settlements decided by district courts. By law, these measures are announced in the newspaper Post- och Inrikes tidningar. The announcement contains the Corporate Identity/ National Insurance number. This number is used to access the Statistics Sweden business database, from where supplementary details about the bankrupt company can be retrieved. The data refer to the county, municipality, industry code, number of employees, corporate form and year of registration.
