Explanation

The statistics include active companies and their workplaces. A company is considered active if it is registered for VAT, registered as an employer or registered for preliminary tax in a business sector exempt from VAT. All active companies have at least one workplace. Workplace, in this regard, refers to every address, property or group of properties where the company conducts its activities.
The business sector in which the company operates is indicated by a numeric code, an SNI code, according to the Swedish Standard of Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities. This branch-specific code (SNI) is assigned to the company according to the primary activity in which it engages. If the company conducts several activities within different branches, the code is assigned according to the branch in which it is most dominant, based either on number of employees or greatest turnover.
