Explanation

The Environmental Code states that areas of land water of general significance because of the natural or cultural values of the area, or in view of outdoor recreation, shall be protected against actions that can significantly damage the natural or cultural environment. Areas of national interest for nature conservation the preservation of the cultural environment or as recreational areas shall be protected against such actions. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency determines which areas are of national interest for nature conservation or as recreational areas. The areas given include land and water, both lakes and territorial waters.
